Maphorisa Reveals What He Loves About Amapiano. Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, popularly known by his stage name DJ Maphorisa, is a South African record producer, DJ and vocalist. The star has become a pioneer of the biggest sound to ever come out of South Africa. Together with other amapiano artists, they have contributed to introducing amapiano to a wider audience.
Phori took to social media to share what he loves about amapiano. With the sound not having any gatekeeper, anyone actually has an opportunity and chance to thrive within the movement. “wat i love about Ampiano is everyone is eating,” he wrote.
Maphorisa invested so much in amapiano, since the genre became one of the biggest in 2018 till date. Speaking on what motivated hi to invest so much in the here, the star said: “At some point, I knew that gqom would reach its sell-by date because it was fast-paced and dark. I find that once a genre becomes dark, the songs end up sounding the same. Gqom was dope but I also felt like it was, only, for certain people. However, with amapiano, I realised quite early on that there was a lot that we could do with it.”
Like most genres that became popular, they eventually got out of fashion making space for a new genre. Commenting on making amapiano more accessible than qgom, Phori said, “At some point, I knew that gqom would reach its sell-by date because it was fast-paced and dark.
