Maphorisa And Mpura React To The List Of SA Best Rappers. Maphorisa, who’s long earned his belt for pumping out hits for almost a decade — from Uhuru’s “Y-tjukutja” and Mafikizolo’s “Khona” to his own “Oncamnce” featuring Stilo Magolide, Kwesta and Zingah — spoke to OkayAfrica over Zoom. His studio has become a legendary haven for artists, both up-and-coming and established.

Maphorisa is disappointed after being excluded from the list of South Africa’s Best Rapper of All Time. On Tuesday, the music producer saw the list of the top 10 best rappers of all time in SA, with AKA spotted on number one, followed by Pro Kid. Other rappers on the list, include, Stogie T, KO, Nasty C, Rouge, Zakwe, Cassper Nyovest, A-Reece, eMtee.Lawd Phori who once did magic in the hip hop industry didn’t spot Madumane on the list and he took to Twitter to express how he feels. Phori believes his flowers will be given to him someday. “One day is one day,” he reacted, and it’s garnered the attention of his fans,” he wrote.

Both Moura and Maphorisa have had their fair share of contribution when it comes to amapiano vocals. Speaking on what motivated him to jump into amapiano, Phori said: “With my gigs, I wanted to understand people’s reactions to this new sound because amapiano was underground. What really sparked my interest in the genre was that, at the time, I was looking to get into something that originated in South Africa. Amapiano is part of kwaito and dance music. When I started working with Afrobeats, which hails from Western Africa, I felt that we didn’t have a sound that strongly represented South Africa. When I started paying close attention to amapiano, I knew that this was a sound that would take South Africa to the world. There’s a lot that you can do with amapiano — you can make it soulful, funky, dusty and hard or jazz it up.”
