Amapiano Awards Organisation Addresses Claims About A Well Known Artist Trying To Discredit The Awards. Last week, the first annual SA Amapiano Awards were announced with a string of nominees. The list sparked controversy on social media with some people questioning whether the list was as accurate as it should be. It has also been reported that some artists also have a problem with the award nominations.

The South African Amapiano Music Awards took to social media addressing claims that a well known artist is trying to discredit the awards. They wrote, “A Thread-It has come to our attention that a well known Artist in the industry, on a personal mission has been going around attempting to discredit the awards. Several Artists have approached us on condition of anonymity to inform us of what this Artist is doing. We would like to make it clear that the South African Amapiano Music Awards are here to stay. It is okay not to appreciate the Awards, but do not discredit them to nurture personal agendas.”

They further went on to say, “Behind the Awards is a group of young passionate black people making sure that this vision comes to fruition, and that this genre and its artists grow further to their fullest potential. Amapiano to the world and we will see to it that this happens.” See thread:

Speaking to City Press, Qness Ndlovu addressed why some acts made the cut while others did not. “For example Umsebenzi Wethu is a song by Busta 929 and Mpura featuring Mr Jazziq, Zuma, Lady Du and Reece Madlisa. But the nomination goes to Busta 929 and Mpura as they are the main artists, and the others appear as featured artists,” he said.
