JazziQ Explains Why He’s Closing His Fast Food Restaurant ‘Junk Park’. Alexandra-born Mr JazziQ first emerged as one-half of JazziDisciples, a South African DJ/producer duo which released a slate of projects that played an important role in Amapiano’s rapid journey from the township into the heart of the mainstream. And now, in 2021, Tumelo Manyoni has his eyes on a bigger prize: using his homegrown success to take over the global music scene. Besides music and cars, the star is also a food fanatic executives his love for food at his restaurant called ‘Junk Park’.
“When you come to South Africa you want to come to the city,” says Mr JazziQ. “You don’t want to be in a fancy hotel somewhere else, you actually want to be walking the streets – feeling that, the smells, the textures. You can’t really describe it. You need to experience it.” As part of that experience, Mr JazziQ opened a restaurant in Alex, Junk Park is where Amapiano lives and breathes, and also where new tracks are often first debuted.
However, with the restrictions and regulations put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19, JazziQ has announced the temporary closure of ‘Junk Park’. The star released a statement explaining the reasons behind the decision. It reads: “In light of Cyril Ramaphosa’s address on the 27th of June 2021, Junk Park has taken the decision to temporarily close due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. The temporary closure comes after extensive consultations with Junk Park partners and key stakeholders. We must acknowledge that these are challenging times around the country and it is important for us to make the appropriate decision for the safety of everyone involved.”
