One of South Africa’s most cherished songs has entered an exciting new chapter. More than a decade after Liquideep captivated audiences with their iconic hit “Fairytale,” the timeless record has been reimagined by global superstar Tyla for her highly anticipated sophomore album, APOP, introducing the beloved classic to a new generation of listeners around the world.

Originally released by the award-winning duo Liquideep, “Fairytale” became one of the defining songs of South Africa’s soulful house era. Its heartfelt lyrics, unforgettable melody, and sophisticated production helped cement the duo’s place among the country’s most influential musical acts, with the song remaining a fan favourite years after its debut.

Now, Tyla’s fresh interpretation celebrates that legacy while giving the record a contemporary twist. More than simply revisiting a classic, the new version serves as a tribute to South African musical heritage, demonstrating how timeless songs continue to evolve while inspiring new audiences across generations.

Reflecting on the milestone, Liquideep member Ziyon expressed his gratitude for seeing the song take on new life.

“When we wrote Fairytale, we never imagined it would still be finding new audiences all these years later. To hear an artist like Tyla, who is carrying South African music to every corner of the world, embrace the song is incredibly special. It reminds us that great music never really belongs to one moment in time. It evolves, it grows and it keeps connecting people.”

His bandmate Ryzor echoed those sentiments, emphasizing the importance of musical continuity.

“Every generation adds its own voice to the story. We’re proud that Fairytale has become part of that journey. Seeing a new generation discover the song through Tyla is incredibly rewarding because it shows how South African music continues to inspire itself while reaching the world.”

During her APOP listening session in Portugal, Tyla also acknowledged Liquideep’s contribution to African music, crediting the duo as one of the artists whose work inspired her own musical journey. Her decision to reinterpret “Fairytale” highlights the lasting influence of Liquideep’s catalogue, which helped shape South Africa’s contemporary dance music long before Amapiano became a global phenomenon.

Liquideep Commercial Manager Poobie Pillay described the remake as a landmark cultural moment that extends beyond music itself.

He noted that the collaboration represents a bridge between generations while creating opportunities to celebrate South African excellence on a global scale, proving that timeless records continue to inspire fresh creativity and international recognition.

As African music enjoys unprecedented global success, Tyla’s version of “Fairytale” reminds listeners that today’s achievements are built upon the foundations laid by earlier pioneers. With this powerful reinterpretation, Liquideep’s enduring classic begins a remarkable new journey—connecting past and present while proving that truly great songs never fade; they simply find new voices.
