Award-winning Amapiano producer Soa Mattrix has opened up about the challenges he faced on his journey to becoming one of South Africa’s most celebrated hitmakers, revealing that there was a time when he almost walked away from music entirely.

Born Mandla Mashakeni in Diepkloof, Soweto, Soa Mattrix has built an impressive career through hard work, consistency, and an unwavering belief in his craft. Today, he is recognized as the creative force behind some of Amapiano’s most beloved songs, including “Mina Nawe,” “Idlozi Lami,” and “Umama Akekho.” However, the road to success was far from smooth.

Speaking about his journey to Daily Sun, the producer admitted that there were moments when the obstacles seemed too great to overcome.

“It wasn’t easy. It was full of ups and downs. At some point, I feel like every artist goes through this. It gets to a point where, when things aren’t working out for some time, you get that feeling of giving up,” he said.

Despite those difficult moments, Soa Mattrix explained that his spirituality and positive mindset helped him push through the challenges. He believes that speaking life into yourself and maintaining faith can be powerful tools during difficult times.

“But if you’re a very spiritual person like me and you pray and you talk to yourself, because the only way to give yourself power is to speak life and positivity into yourself. I think that’s going to save you,” he added.

Today, Soa Mattrix is one of the most respected names in the Amapiano scene, but he says success has brought a different kind of pressure. Rather than comparing himself to other artists, he focuses on competing with his previous achievements.

“I do have a little pressure because it’s not a pressure of maybe my song needs to be better than someone else’s song. It’s a pressure that I need to compete with myself,” he explained.

The producer revealed that every time he enters the studio, his goal is to create music that surpasses his previous successes. This mindset has helped him remain motivated while continuing to evolve as an artist.

Fans also have plenty to look forward to as Soa Mattrix confirmed that he is currently working on a brand-new album. The project will consist of 15 tracks and promises to showcase both familiar and fresh talent.

“It’s people who know music. Some you may know, but some you may not know because I believe so much in working with new people who have a different energy,” he said.

While he remains tight-lipped about the featured artists, his excitement for the project is clear. If his previous releases are anything to go by, the upcoming album could be another major milestone in an already remarkable career.

From nearly giving up to becoming one of Amapiano’s biggest stars, Soa Mattrix’s story is a powerful reminder that persistence and belief can turn dreams into reality.
