South African music legend Oskido has officially been honoured with the prestigious Order of Ikhamanga in Silver by Cyril Ramaphosa, marking another historic moment in his legendary career.

The Order of Ikhamanga is one of South Africa’s highest national honours and is awarded to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the arts, culture, music, literature, journalism, and sport. Receiving such an honour places Oskido among some of the country’s most celebrated cultural icons.

Over the years, Oskido has played a major role in shaping South African music and entertainment. From pioneering the kwaito movement to helping develop new generations of artists through Kalawa Jazmee Records, his influence on African music culture remains undeniable.

Following the announcement, Oskido took to Instagram to express gratitude and reflect on what the honour means to him and everyone who has supported his journey throughout the years.

“Deeply grateful to President Ramaphosa and the Presidency for this honour — the Order of Ikhamanga. But I receive this on behalf of all of us. My family, Kalawa Jazmee, DJs United, every pioneer, every creative, every believer. We lift each other and God opens the doors. This is only the beginning.🙏🔥,” he wrote.

His message touched many fans and fellow musicians who congratulated him for the well-deserved recognition. Social media was flooded with praise from supporters who acknowledged the enormous contribution Oskido has made to the South African music industry for decades.

The honour further solidifies Oskido’s place among South Africa’s greatest cultural contributors. Several legendary artists have previously received the Order of Ikhamanga, including Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Brenda Fassie, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

Many industry figures described Oskido’s recognition as long overdue, considering his decades of dedication to music, artist development, and cultural innovation. Beyond being a successful DJ and producer, he has also helped mentor and launch the careers of numerous South African artists who have gone on to become stars in their own right.

Fans also praised Oskido for always remaining humble despite his success and influence in the entertainment industry. His journey from township DJ to one of the most respected names in African music continues inspiring young creatives across the continent.

The recognition by the Presidency serves as a reminder of the powerful role music and culture play in shaping South Africa’s identity. Oskido’s contribution has extended far beyond entertainment, helping create opportunities, preserve local sounds, and elevate South African music onto the global stage.

For many supporters, the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver is not only a celebration of Oskido’s legacy but also a celebration of South African music history itself.
