South African producer and DJ Freddy K has officially begun the rollout for his upcoming project titled If Gqom Was Piano. The artist recently gave fans a glimpse into the anticipated release by unveiling the project’s cover artwork and confirming that the nine-track project will arrive on 27 March 2026.

The announcement was made through Freddy K’s Instagram page, where he shared a teaser of the artwork and explained the creative vision behind the project. According to the producer, the upcoming release represents a fusion between two of South Africa’s most influential dance genres — Gqom and Amapiano.

“I’d like to announce that I’m dropping my first project of the year, titled ‘IF GQOM WAS PIANO,’ on 27/03/26. Gqom and Amapiano become one on this project. It’s a sound I’ve been working on for some time, and I’m finally excited to share it with everyone,” he wrote in the announcement.

The rollout for the project will be led by the single Sukuma, which Freddy K confirmed will drop on 13 March as the second official preview of the project. Positioned at the centre of the rollout strategy, “Sukuma” is expected to further introduce listeners to the sound and direction of the upcoming release.

By blending the hard-hitting energy of Gqom with the rhythmic grooves of Amapiano, Freddy K appears to be exploring a fresh sonic territory. The concept behind the project suggests a creative experiment that aims to merge the distinctive characteristics of both genres into a cohesive sound.

Another song already associated with the project is Wuwe, a collaboration with EeQue that was released on 12 December 2025. Since its release, the track has stood out as an early highlight and offered fans an initial taste of the musical direction Freddy K is exploring for the project.

“Wuwe” introduced listeners to the fusion of styles that now defines the concept behind If Gqom Was Piano, setting the tone for what supporters can expect when the full body of work arrives.

With the teaser artwork now revealed and the release date confirmed, the rollout for the project is officially underway. Early singles like “Wuwe” and the upcoming “Sukuma” are building anticipation as Freddy K gradually introduces the soundscape of the nine-track collection.

As the countdown to 27 March continues, fans of both Gqom and Amapiano are eager to hear how Freddy K will combine the two genres. If the early previews are anything to go by, If Gqom Was Piano could become one of the more innovative dance projects to emerge from South Africa this year.
