While celebrating another major achievement in her career, Tyla reflected on her earlier years and the practical backup plan she had prepared in case her dreams of becoming a musician did not work out.
Although she is now globally recognised for hit songs like Water, Tyla revealed that music was always her passion, but she still made sure to keep a realistic option in mind. According to the singer, her alternative career choice would have been mining engineering.
“I’ve always wanted to be a musician,” Tyla explained during the interview. “With mining engineering, you know how African parents want you to become a doctor, lawyer and all these things, which is amazing, but it was always my plan B.”
Her comments resonated with many fans online, especially those who understand the common pressure many young people face to pursue traditional or financially stable careers. Tyla admitted that one of the main reasons she considered mining engineering was the financial security the profession could offer.
