DJ Maphorisa Addresses Sfiso, Thakgi and MacG, Claims Podcasters Rely on His Name for Clout

DJ Maphorisa has finally addressed the growing tension between himself and members of the Podcast and Chill ecosystem, calling out Sfiso, Thakgi, and MacG in a fiery yet humorous rant that quickly set social media ablaze. The Amapiano heavyweight, known for his emotional transparency and unfiltered honesty, spoke candidly during a recent live stream on 6 January, making it clear that he has reached his limit with the constant scrutiny.

In what many described as a moment of sudden clarity, Maphorisa suggested that the podcasters’ repeated focus on his name is not accidental, but strategic. According to the producer, their fixation is rooted in the fact that his name generates traction, views, and ultimately money for their platforms.

“For Mafitsotso, Thakgi, and MacG to make money, I must be involved, for them to get some traction. That’s what I’ve realised,” he said, sparking laughter and debate across social media.

Maphorisa, also known as Madumane, revealed that while he still doesn’t fully understand Sfiso (Mafitsotso)’s agenda, he recently chose a more mature route with Thakgi, confronting him directly about the repeated negative commentary. “He’s still young, he’ll learn. Instead of being mad, I spoke to him and asked, ‘Why are you always attacking me? What did I do to you?’” he shared.

The producer went on to explain that podcasters often capitalise on his emotional reactions, knowing that whenever he responds to criticism, it becomes viral content that drives audiences to their shows. “It’s because I’m emotional and take things to heart, but how can I not? I’ve worked so hard for this industry and I’m still being attacked,” he said. He added that the criticism often ignores the positive contributions he has made, including mentoring artists like Kabza De Small during the early stages of their partnership.

Maphorisa’s rant followed shortly after a Piano Pulse panel discussion reviewing notable Amapiano moments of 2025, where several artists were heavily critiqued — and Porry was once again a central talking point.

Online reactions were divided. Some applauded DJ Maphorisa for defending his legacy and speaking his truth, while others argued that his emotional responses play directly into the podcasters’ hands, giving them exactly the controversy they thrive on.

Despite the mixed reactions, one thing is clear: DJ Maphorisa is done staying silent. Whether viewed as a necessary stand or unintentional fuel for podcast drama, his message has once again placed him at the centre of South Africa’s ongoing conversation about media, accountability, and respect within the music industry.
