Amapiano maestro Kelvin Momo has finally responded to criticism from controversial Piano Pulse Podcast host Maesela “Thakgi” Ledwaba, and he did so in the most Kelvin Momo way possible — with humour, satire, and a viral meme that left social media in stitches.
The producer broke his silence on Sunday, 4 January 2026, after Thakgi questioned his relevance during a recent episode of Piano Pulse. In the discussion, Thakgi dismissed Momo’s 2025 output, claiming the producer’s only contribution was “giving us long albums that nobody listens to.” The statement quickly sparked debate online, given Momo’s reputation as one of Amapiano’s most respected and consistent creatives.
Rather than issuing a lengthy statement, Kelvin Momo opted for comedy. Taking to his Instagram Stories, he shared a video clip of fellow Amapiano sensation Snanjana, who is seen hurling unfiltered and colourful insults at Thakgi and his equally controversial co-host Sfiso. The clip instantly went viral, with fans praising Momo’s ability to respond without engaging directly — letting humour do the talking.
Social media users erupted with laughter, many pointing out Thakgi’s long-standing reputation for stirring controversy within the music industry. Others applauded Momo for not being drawn into verbal sparring, choosing instead to troll his critic with precision.
Interestingly, during the same Piano Pulse episode aired on 30 December, music executive Nota Baloyi stood out as the lone voice defending Kelvin Momo. Nota strongly championed Momo’s artistry, highlighting his cultural impact, musical depth, and influence on the evolution of Amapiano — a stark contrast to Thakgi’s dismissive stance.
This isn’t the first time Thakgi has taken aim at the Abo Gogo hitmaker. Months earlier, he labelled Kelvin Momo as “cocky and arrogant,” even calling on promoters to boycott him over claims that he frequently misses gigs. “He respects his craft, but I don’t think he fully respects his fans,” Thakgi said at the time.
Momo’s cheeky response to the latest criticism only added fuel to online conversations about Thakgi’s polarising commentary. Many users recalled how the podcaster previously faced backlash for body-shaming Kabza De Small, an incident that saw him heavily criticised by fans who accused him of using his platform irresponsibly.
In the end, Kelvin Momo’s response proved that sometimes silence — paired with humour — speaks louder than words. By turning criticism into comedy, the producer once again showed why he remains one of the most admired figures in Amapiano, letting his music — and his wit — do the talking.
