Zee Nxumalo is undeniably one of the most exciting success stories in South African entertainment, and 2025 will be remembered as the year she truly owned her moment. More than just a hitmaker, Zee emerged as a cultural force whose influence stretched across music, film, fashion, television, and major brand partnerships. From record-breaking streaming milestones to standout moments on screen and on stage, her year was defined by intention, versatility, and unstoppable momentum.

According to Shingai Darangwa, her long-time manager and co-founder of Punchline Projects, Zee’s rise has been anything but accidental. “What people are seeing now is the result of an unbelievable work ethic, a deep love for craft, and a hunger that never switches off,” he said. “She shows up every day with the same intensity, whether she’s in studio, on set, or in a boardroom, and that consistency is what separates generational talent from fleeting success.”

Several key achievements explain why Zee Nxumalo dominated 2025.

  1. The most-streamed female artist in South Africa

Firstly, she closed the year as the most-streamed female artist in South Africa, ending a four-year reign by Taylor Swift on local streaming platforms. This milestone cemented her status not only as a fan favourite, but as a formidable commercial force in the industry.

2. “Ngisakuthanda” crossed 100 million streams

Secondly, her beloved hit “Ngisakuthanda” crossed 100 million streams across digital platforms. Originally released in 2024, the song found renewed life in 2025, proving its rare staying power and emotional depth.

3. Ngisakuthanda: The Short Film redefined her storytelling

Zee also expanded her creative range with Ngisakuthanda: The Short Film, which has surpassed 600,000 views on YouTube. The project marked a bold artistic evolution, positioning her as a storyteller and actress capable of translating music into compelling visual narratives.

4. Dominated again with “Mamma”

Adding to her dominance, Zee went viral again with “Mamma”, which became a popular TikTok sound while its music video topped television music charts. The moment reinforced her ability to bridge digital culture and traditional media with ease.

5. Became the face of major brands across sectors

Beyond music, Zee became the face of major brands including Puma South Africa, KFC Streetwise Loaded, and Brutal Fruit Spritzer’s The Pink Table, and she hosted the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Pre-Show, highlighting her broad appeal.

6. Earned industry recognition with major awards

Industry recognition followed, with Zee receiving the GLAMOUR Women of the Year: Editors Award and being named Basadi in Music Artist of the Year.

7. Merchandise sold out at retail

Her influence even extended into fashion, as her merchandise collaboration with The Fix sold out at retail.

By every measure, 2025 marked the moment Zee Nxumalo stepped fully into her power — and claimed her place as a generational star.
