Babalwa M and Kelvin Momo have become one of the most admired duos in the South African music landscape, known for their seamless chemistry, soulful sound, and unforgettable collaborations. Together, they have crafted some of Amapiano’s most emotionally rich and timeless records—songs that resonate deeply with fans across the globe. And now, for the first time, Babalwa M is sharing the intimate story of how this powerful musical partnership began.

In a recent interview with Metro FM, Babalwa M opened up about where and how she met the soulful piano pioneer, detailing the humble beginnings that would eventually grow into one of Amapiano’s strongest artistic alliances. Reflecting on their first encounter, she revealed:
“We met at a place called S&K in Soweto. So I was always with him, we used to make beats and he needed a vocalist at that time and I was around, so I jumped on one of the songs he was doing. So yeah, I guess that’s where it all started.”

This simple yet fateful moment marked the birth of a creative bond that would later shape the sound of “private school piano,” a subgenre Kelvin Momo is widely celebrated for. Their early days experimenting in Soweto laid the foundation for what would become a dynamic partnership—Kelvin Momo with his lush, atmospheric production and Babalwa M with her ethereal, unmistakable vocals.

Over the years, the pair have delivered countless hits together, many of which have become staples in the Amapiano community. Their ability to elevate each other’s artistry is part of what makes their collaboration so special. Fans often praise how Momo’s deeply layered instrumentals blend effortlessly with Babalwa’s delicate voice, creating music that feels intimate, soothing, and emotionally charged.

Their story also speaks to the authenticity and organic nature of the Amapiano movement. Much of the genre’s magic begins in ordinary spaces—townships, small studios, local venues—where artists connect genuinely through passion rather than strategy. For Babalwa M and Kelvin Momo, “S&K in Soweto” was exactly that place: a creative playground where two future stars found each other at the perfect moment.

Now, as both artists continue to soar individually and in collaboration, their origin story is a reminder that some of the biggest musical breakthroughs come from unexpected encounters. And for fans, it’s clear that the universe aligned when Babalwa M and Kelvin Momo crossed paths—because what followed was nothing short of musical destiny.
