South African amapiano sensations TxC have added another milestone to their growing list of achievements after receiving a gold plaque for their chart-topping single ‘Yebo’ during the ACCES 2025 music trade event, held in Tshwane from 30 October to 1 November.
Presented by The Orchard, the accolade recognises sales surpassing 60 000 units in South Africa — a testament to the duo’s expanding influence within the country’s thriving music industry and beyond. The ceremony followed TxC’s participation in a thought-provoking fireside chat titled Rooted Sounds, Global Stages: African Music’s Next Chapter, where they were joined by fellow South African artist DJ Karri and The Orchard West Africa director, Lanre Masha.
The session delved into the evolving global reach of African music, exploring how artists are connecting with international audiences while staying true to their roots. Topics such as collaboration, creativity, and navigating industry challenges were central to the discussion — areas in which TxC continue to demonstrate leadership and innovation.
Speaking to Music in Africa about the presentation, Masha highlighted the broader significance of TxC’s achievement. “It highlighted the remarkable achievements of TxC in taking African music to the global stage,” he said. “Their creativity, consistency, and ability to connect with audiences across borders truly embody the spirit of African music today. This milestone not only celebrates their hard work but also highlights the global impact of South Africa’s vibrant music scene.”
Originating from Gqeberha and now based in Johannesburg, TxC — composed of Tarryn Reid and Clairise Hefke — have played a pivotal role in driving the international rise of amapiano. Known for their high-energy performances and savvy use of digital platforms, the duo has built a loyal following that stretches from Africa to Europe and the Americas.
Their recognition at ACCES 2025 not only cements their place as leading figures in the genre but also underscores the increasing visibility of women in electronic and dance music — a space often dominated by men.
As amapiano continues to influence global music trends, TxC’s success with ‘Yebo’ stands as a celebration of African creativity and resilience. The gold plaque represents more than sales; it symbolises the power of local sounds resonating across borders and the unstoppable momentum of South Africa’s dynamic music culture.
