Amapiano artist Scotts Maphuma is facing social media backlash after being called out by TikTok content creator and livestreamer Shabbawama 2K for allegedly ghosting him following a public promise to buy new studio equipment.
It all began when Shabbawama, known for his energetic livestreams and upbeat personality, turned to his online community earlier this week to ask for help upgrading his studio setup. His heartfelt appeal quickly gained traction, spreading across social platforms as fans and fellow creators rallied behind him.
Among those who appeared to offer support was amapiano sensation Scotts Maphuma, who excitedly commented, “Let’s go buy it tomorrow.” The brief but bold statement sent fans into a frenzy, with many praising Maphuma for his apparent generosity and eagerness to help a fellow creative improve his craft.
However, the excitement didn’t last long. Days later, Shabbawama shared a disappointing update, revealing that Maphuma never followed through on his promise. “Scotts Maphuma, who said he was going to cover all the costs, didn’t pick up his phone,” he said, expressing his frustration and confusion over the situation.
The revelation quickly spread online, sparking mixed reactions among fans. Some criticized Maphuma for making a promise he didn’t keep, while others suggested there might have been a misunderstanding or miscommunication behind the scenes. Regardless, the moment has ignited conversation around accountability and the importance of following through on public commitments—especially in the digital age.
Despite the letdown, Shabbawama maintained a positive spirit and took a moment to thank those who did step up to support his cause. In his post, he acknowledged Tyler ICU, Lekau Sehoana, and Primo for contributing funds toward his equipment upgrade.
He wrote, “@lekausehoana & @tylericu were the only people that sent money for the equipment, and I’ve managed to raise up to 11K (Tyler ICU 5K + 6K Lekau). I did place an order for the equipment at TAKEALOT and I am told to expect the delivery on Friday, the 31st of October. Thank you so much to everyone that was able to spread the word for me—I managed to get the equipment.”
As of now, Scotts Maphuma has not publicly addressed the accusations, leaving fans waiting for his side of the story. In the meantime, Shabbawama’s determination and community support have turned a disappointing situation into a story of resilience and gratitude.
