The assassination of Tshwane MC and DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, particularly impacting Amapiano superstar Kabza De Small. In light of the tragic incident, Kabza De Small, real name Kabelo Motha, has made the difficult decision to cancel his scheduled performance at the Bom Extravaganza All Black Edition event in Soshanguve on Freedom Day, 27 April.

Despite efforts from his management team to persuade him to honor the booking, Kabza De Small remained resolute in his decision, prioritizing his safety above all else. Citing concerns over the crime-ridden nature of Soshanguve and the recent violent events in the area, Kabza De Small’s management team informed the event organizers of their decision to cancel the performance.

In a letter addressed to the organizers, they said: “they said: “After long conversations with our client Kabelo Motha, we have reached a conclusion to cancel the event happening this weekend due to the sudden events that occurred this past weekend, due to the safety of our client. Kabza De Small’s management expressed their regret over the cancellation and emphasized their client’s safety as the primary reason for the decision. They also offered a full refund to the organizers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

The cancellation comes in the wake of the tragic death of Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, who was fatally shot by assailants in Pretoria. The incident has heightened security concerns within the entertainment industry, prompting Kabza De Small to prioritize his safety and well-being.

Despite assurances from the event organizers regarding enhanced security measures, including VIP protection, Kabza De Small remained firm in his decision to withdraw from the event. The organizers have since pledged to replace Kabza De Small with another well-known artist for the scheduled performance.

The comedian and Dj Mashata was shot by two attackers outside Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) following a show at Epozini Lifestyle. Even when they assured increased the security detail to make him comfortable, Kabza De Small still refused.

The cancellation of Kabza De Small’s performance serves as a sobering reminder of the risks and challenges faced by artists in the entertainment industry, particularly in areas plagued by crime and violence. It underscores the importance of prioritizing safety and security, even in the pursuit of artistic endeavors.

As patrons of the event come to terms with the cancellation, there is a renewed focus on addressing the underlying issues of crime and violence that continue to threaten the safety of artists and performers. Moving forward, it is imperative that measures are put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved in the entertainment industry, allowing artists like Kabza De Small to continue sharing their talent and creativity with the world in a safe and secure environment.
