Renowned Amapiano maestro DJ Maphorisa recently gave fans a glimpse into his car collection, featuring a lineup of vintage models that left South African fans with mixed reactions. The celebrated artist, known for his pioneering contributions to the Amapiano genre, showcased his fleet of classic cars, including BMWs and vintage VWs, fondly referred to as ‘gusheshe’ in some South African townships.

In a video shared on social media, DJ Maphorisa’s garage serves as a backdrop for his impressive car collection. The vintage vehicles, each boasting its unique charm and character, offer a glimpse into the musician’s taste and style beyond the realm of music. However, the reaction from Mzansi was far from unanimous, with many expressing disappointment and skepticism about the collection.

Some took to social media to voice their opinions, with comments ranging from skepticism about the ownership of the cars to criticism of their outdated appearance. PhoshPk questioned the authenticity of the collection, “That looks like a public basement parking lot though, more like those cars came for a car show event or something. I don’t think they are all his cars!” Others, like Sphume_Minnie, “Tell me you love BMW without telling me you love BMW.”

Critics also highlighted the similarity in the models and colors of the cars, prompting comparisons and jokes about their uniformity. Sim_bells pointed out,”Same car, just different colors.”, while AmabhodlelaC found the collection embarrassing, “LOL, this is embarrassing.”

However, not everyone shared the same sentiment. Amapiano sensation Kamo Mphela expressed admiration for DJ Maphorisa’s car collection in an interview, citing it as an inspiration for her aspirations to own similar vehicles. Unlike the skeptical voices dominating social media, Mphela found the vintage charm of the cars appealing and saw them as a symbol of success and achievement.

Despite the mixed reactions, DJ Maphorisa’s car collection serves as a testament to his achievements beyond the music industry. As an influential figure in the Amapiano scene, his success story inspires many aspiring artists and fans to pursue their dreams relentlessly. Whether his vintage cars resonate with everyone or not, there’s no denying that DJ Maphorisa’s journey is one of resilience, dedication, and unwavering passion, both on and off the stage.
