Amapiano sensation Mashudu Mosoeu, known by her stage name Mashudu, has found herself embroiled in turmoil after her Facebook account was hijacked, disrupting both her personal life and music career. The 24-year-old musician from Soweto revealed the harrowing experience she’s been enduring since the cyberattack, expressing the toll it has taken on her and her budding music journey.

Mashudu lamented the missed opportunities and challenges she’s faced since falling victim to the hack. She shared, “My Facebook page, MashuduSA, was unfortunately hacked last year. The person who has done this pretends to be me and has access to innocent fans.” The impact has been profound, affecting her ability to connect with her audience and tarnishing her image in the process.

The gravity of the situation is exacerbated by the fact that the perpetrator also gained access to her booking number, leading to potential complications for fans and promoters alike. Mashudu expressed her frustration with Facebook’s response, stating that, despite numerous attempts to report the incident, her account remains compromised.

“Can you believe it? There’s also a booking number on the page. A lot could be going wrong when fans or promoters text the person,” she revealed, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Despite the setbacks, Mashudu remains resolute, drawing strength from her musical roots and unwavering determination. Reflecting on her journey, she recounted how her passion for music blossomed from a young age, nurtured by supportive figures like her former vice principal, Mkhomi. “For me, my music journey started with going to musicals and choir competitions during my school days at age seven, and I gradually became interested in the world of classical music,” she shared.

Unfortunately, Mashudu’s plight isn’t an isolated incident in the Amapiano community. Earlier in 2024, fellow Amapiano star Lady Du, whose real name is Duduzile Ngwenya, faced a similar ordeal when her business email was hacked. Lady Du emphasized the detrimental impact such cyberattacks can have on an artist’s brand and reputation. “It makes your brand look like you’re not good at anything… These ruins people’s identities, as many people no longer trust you as you appear to be fake,” she expressed, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.

In the face of adversity, Mashudu and Lady Du’s experiences serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of cybersecurity in the music industry and the need for greater protection for artists’ online presence. As they navigate through these challenges, their resilience and determination continue to inspire fans worldwide.
