In a historic moment for South African sports, the Soweto Derby made headlines by featuring a halftime show for the first time ever. Leading the charge was none other than Zee Nxumalo, who became the first Amapiano artist to headline the halftime show alongside the TKZee band and Dlala Thukzin.

The groundbreaking halftime performance marked a significant milestone for both Zee Nxumalo and the Amapiano genre as a whole. Taking center stage at one of the most iconic sporting events in South Africa, Zee Nxumalo delivered a stellar performance that electrified the crowd and showcased the growing influence of Amapiano music in the country’s cultural landscape.

An Instagram post by @kokota.afrika celebrated Zee Nxumalo’s historic achievement, offering heartfelt congratulations to the talented artist and all those involved in making the halftime show a reality. “A big kokota congratulations to her and everyone that made this happen.” The post underscored the significance of Zee’s performance as a ground-breaking moment in South African music history.

At just 20 years old, Zee Nxumalo has quickly risen to prominence in the music industry, making waves with her infectious blend of afropop and Amapiano sounds. Her breakout single “Pholile,” featuring Azana and Mlindo The Vocalist, catapulted her into the spotlight in 2023, paving the way for a string of successful collaborations and chart-topping hits.

According to a report by News24, Thandi Merafe, Pirates’ media manager, emphasized the club’s commitment to delivering an unforgettable experience for fans by introducing innovative elements like the halftime show. “That’s why we’ve put together a half-time entertainment show together with our partner SuperSportBet,” Merafe said.

According to News24, Merafe highlighted the importance of not taking the Soweto Derby for granted, acknowledging the immense significance of the event within South African sports culture. By introducing a halftime entertainment show featuring prominent musical acts like Zee Nxumalo, TKZee, and Dlala Thukzin, Pirates aimed to enhance the overall fan experience and elevate the derby to new heights of excitement and entertainment.

The inclusion of Zee Nxumalo as the first amapiano artist to headline the halftime show underscores the genre’s growing influence and mainstream appeal. As amapiano continues to captivate audiences both locally and internationally, Zee’s historic performance serves as a testament to the genre’s cultural significance and its ability to unite people through the power of music.
