Watch! Kabza De Small Reveals His First Job Before Music. Kabza De Small is the stage name of South African DJ and producer Kabelo Motha, who is considered one of the pioneers of Amapiano, a jazzy subgenre of house music. He began his DJ career in 2009, initially combining EDM with Afrobeat-infused house before moving into the more down-tempo territory of Amapiano.

While he may seem like an overnight success, Kabza is one of the artists who had it hard to finally breaking into the mainstream He shared that his first job was as a lawnmower. “I started working as a lawnmower. You see those people that cut grass, yeah. I would cut at people’s houses and also municipalities,” he said.

Today, Kabza De Small is one of the most recognised artists in the world. He made his first splash outside the Pretoria club scene with “Amabele Shaya,” a collaboration with Amapiano artist Leehleza that became a South African hit in 2018. Scorpion Kings, his 2019 collaboration with DJ Maphorisa, was a major success in South Africa, selling more than 100,000 copies.

Motha is often referred to as the “King of Amapiano”. He is considered one of the best-selling music artists of amapiano, and also one of the pioneers of the genre. With his breakthrough in 2018, he played an instrumental role in popularizing the amapiano genre. On 3 December 2019, Spotify South Africa, named Motha as the most-streamed South African artist in the platform for 2019.
