South African Amapiano singer Sykes has left fans deeply concerned after revealing that he survived a terrifying attempted hijacking in Johannesburg that left him injured and traumatised. The artist recently took to social media to share details of the violent incident, opening up about the frightening encounter and warning others to remain vigilant on the roads.

On 12 May 2026, Sykes shared that he experienced what he described as his “fair share of Jozi’s dangerous streets” after criminals allegedly attempted to hijack him and steal his Mercedes-Benz. According to the singer, the attackers became violent after he resisted the robbery attempt.

“Got my fair share of Jozi’s dangerous streets. They tried taking my car from me and when I resisted they stabbed me, lucky to be alive,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

The singer also used the moment to warn fellow South Africans and motorists about the dangers of travelling, especially in crime-affected areas. “Please lock your doors when you’re on the road, you never know when such things will happen,” he added.

His message quickly spread across social media, with fans and fellow artists expressing shock and relief that he survived the attack. Many users praised Sykes for speaking openly about the incident and using his platform to create awareness around the ongoing crime crisis affecting many South Africans.

The situation became even more emotional after Sykes posted a video showing the aftermath of the attack. In the clip, the singer appeared visibly shaken while sitting in a wheelchair with his leg heavily bandaged. The footage highlighted the seriousness of the injuries he sustained during the attempted hijacking and immediately sparked concern from supporters online.

Fans flooded his comment sections with prayers, words of encouragement, and messages wishing him a speedy recovery. Some also expressed frustration about the rising levels of violent crime in South Africa, particularly the dangers faced by artists who frequently travel at night to and from performances.

Many social media users pointed out that musicians and entertainers have increasingly become targets for criminals due to their public profiles and busy travel schedules. Others praised Sykes’ bravery and quick thinking, believing his actions may have helped save his life during the terrifying ordeal.

The incident may also temporarily affect Sykes’ upcoming performances and public appearances while he focuses on recovering from his injuries. Although no further details have been shared regarding his recovery timeline, supporters remain hopeful that the artist will heal both physically and emotionally from the traumatic experience.

Sykes, who has become known for his contribution to the Amapiano scene and his hit records, continues receiving overwhelming support from the entertainment industry and his loyal fan base.

The shocking incident has once again sparked wider conversations around public safety, crime, and the vulnerability of public figures in South Africa. While fans remain heartbroken over what happened, many are simply grateful that the singer survived the attack.

For now, supporters continue sending prayers and positive messages to Sykes as he recovers from what could have been a far more tragic situation.
