Amapiano star Kelvin Momo has come under intense criticism after failing to appear at two highly anticipated events, leaving both fans and promoters frustrated. The popular DJ and producer, known for his soulful and laid-back style of Amapiano, recently faced backlash following his absence from scheduled performances in Hebron, North West, and Polokwane.
Kelvin Momo, whose real name is Thato Kelvin Ledwaba, was expected to perform at Marks Pub and Shisanyama in Hebron on 2 April 2026. Fans gathered in large numbers, excited to see the Amapiano hitmaker perform live. However, the event ended in disappointment when the artist did not arrive as scheduled.
In a similar situation, Kelvin Momo also missed a performance at the Mamalisa event in Polokwane, leaving supporters and event organizers equally frustrated. The repeated no-shows quickly sparked criticism on social media, where fans voiced their concerns about the artist’s reliability.
Many supporters expressed disappointment, with some calling the situation unprofessional, especially considering the effort and money fans often invest to attend such events. For some fans, this was particularly frustrating as it was not the first time the artist had failed to appear at a scheduled performance.
Kelvin Momo has built a strong reputation within the South African music scene over the years. His distinct, mellow sound has helped him cultivate a loyal fan base and earn recognition both locally and internationally. However, incidents like these risk affecting his reputation if they continue.
Following the backlash, the artist released two separate statements explaining the circumstances surrounding his absence.
Addressing the Marks Pub and Shisanyama event, Kelvin Momo apologized and explained that his demanding schedule had caused travel complications.
“Kelvin Momo would like to extend his sincere apologies to all stakeholders, partners, and fans regarding his absence from the scheduled performance. Due to ongoing band rehearsals in preparation for his upcoming Kelvin Momo Live Concert, his schedule was significantly constrained. Unfortunately, this resulted in him missing the last available flight from Durban,” the statement read.
Regarding the Mamalisa event in Polokwane, the artist revealed that unexpected logistical challenges played a role.
“Unfortunately, Kelvin Momo was unable to attend due to unforeseen fuel shortages. Despite efforts by him and his team, they were unable to secure diesel (50ppm) in time and ultimately had to make the difficult decision to return home,” the statement explained.
The situation has even drawn attention from public figures. Radio personality Sizwe Dlomo weighed in on the matter, warning about the potential consequences.
“Someone should warn Kelvin Momo. Some promoters don’t play that. It’s a very dangerous game he’s playing,” Dlomo commented.
The criticism comes at a time when Kelvin Momo’s career is experiencing significant growth. However, fans are now hoping the artist will address the situation and take steps to ensure greater consistency moving forward.
Many supporters remain loyal to the star but believe that accountability and reliability will be crucial in maintaining trust with fans and promoters alike.
