South African Amapiano star Lady Du has opened up about a difficult chapter in her career after revealing that she has finally won a legal battle that prevented her from releasing music independently for nearly three years. In a heartfelt message shared with fans on Instagram, the singer confirmed that she is now free from a restrictive contract and ready to begin a new phase in her musical journey.
Addressing her supporters directly, Lady Du explained that although fans continued to hear her voice on various collaborations during the past few years, she was unable to release music under her own profile due to contractual limitations.
“This is your girl Lady Du, so guys I’ve been in a lot of features, but those songs are practically mine only because I was tied to a contract that I couldn’t get out of, so I am officially free. I won the case. I don’t wanna bring the negativity, I don’t wanna talk about what happened. I’ve been through a lot for the past two to three years,” she said.
Her statement shed light on a challenging period that many fans may not have fully understood. While she remained active through collaborations, the artist explained that the legal situation forced her to rely on other artists’ platforms to release music and earn income.
“I don’t even want anything that’s going to trigger that emotion. All I ask from you is that you support me moving forward. I am going to be dropping music now. I can officially drop music with my own profile without asking people to drop my music in their profiles and make me a feature,” she added.
Reflecting on the experience, Lady Du also shared an important message to fellow creatives about the importance of carefully reviewing contracts before signing them.
“I’ve learned my lesson: do not sign contracts that you have not read and contracts that you do not give to your lawyer. Please trust yourself. Make sure you understand what you’re doing and for the right reasons,” she advised.
Despite the challenges she faced, the singer expressed deep gratitude to the fans who continued supporting her throughout the difficult period, often unaware of the struggles she was experiencing behind the scenes.

“Finally the battle is over!!!!!! I will be doing my studio camp as of next week. I’m signing to an American distributor,” she wrote.
