Amapiano heavyweight Kabza de Small has found himself at the center of online debate after reports surfaced alleging that the award-winning producer is being taken to court over unpaid rent. The controversy emerged over the weekend after multiple media outlets reported that Kabza de Small, born Kabelo Motha, allegedly owes a substantial amount in rental arrears for a luxury apartment in Sandton. Celebrity blog Maphepha Ndaba shared on Instagram on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, that the producer is said to owe approximately R346,000 in unpaid rent, a figure that quickly grabbed public attention.
According to Daily Sun, the alleged landlord, Zolile Dlamini of The Leonardo apartments in Sandton, claims that Kabza failed to meet his rental obligations under a lease agreement valued at R95,000 per month. Court papers reportedly filed at the Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, indicate that the lease agreement ran from 2 February 2025 to 31 January 2026.
The publication further reports that the landlord alleges Kabza accumulated rental arrears amounting to between R345,000 and R346,000, prompting legal action. The case has since ignited public discourse, especially given Kabza de Small’s status as one of South Africa’s most successful and influential music producers.
