Amapiano’s fast-rising star Kmat, born Koketso Reabetswe Mathabathe and proudly representing Soshanguve, has officially dropped her latest album “Yehyeh,” a project deeply rooted in her upbringing and musical identity. At just 26 years old, Kmat is proving that she is more than a rising DJ — she is a storyteller, a trendsetter, and a cultural torchbearer.

Growing up in a kasi that embraced bacardi and rekere, Kmat felt a strong calling to infuse these sounds into her new body of work. “Yehyeh” reflects both her heritage and her evolution, blending the raw, energetic pulse of township dance culture with the vibrant textures of Amapiano. The project is a celebration of her roots, her growth, and the layers that make up the dynamic artist fans have come to love.

Kmat has quickly built a reputation for her energetic DJ sets, bold and trendy hairstyles, and hits like MKK that have earned her recognition across South Africa and beyond. The success of her earlier project, the Luminous Flame EP, solidified her place in the game, while her international performances continue to expand her influence.

Speaking about “Yehyeh,” Kmat shared that the project represents her artistic freedom and her confidence in her craft.
“It’s me consistently giving my all to my craft and having it start to pay off… having the stars align for you,” she said. “I have so many layers that make up Kmat, and that truly means there’s something about me.”

Her journey started behind the decks playing deep house, before she transitioned into Amapiano — a shift that allowed her to explore her full sonic identity. She carries elements from her early musical experiences into everything she creates, shaping a sound that is unmistakably her own.

For the first time, Kmat crafted an entire project independently, and the process has further affirmed her vision.
“I wanted a dance project — one that fuses the different anchors of dance. As a Tshwane girl, there is bacardi, rekere, gqom, house, and obviously Amapiano. Dance truly,” she explained.

With “Yehyeh,” Kmat hopes listeners not only enjoy the music but also feel empowered.
“Besides a repeat and more listening, I hope it inspires people to be themselves. There’s always space for you and the version that you truly are,” she added.

Bold, authentic, and proudly rooted in Tshwane culture, “Yehyeh” is another major step in Kmat’s unstoppable rise.
