Reason on How Being An Entertainer Impacts Parenting

In a recent episode of Say Less with Pearl & Thando, Reason or as he is known in the Amapiano space, Sizwe Alkaline discussed challenges in balancing professional work and personal life, especially parenting. The conversation took place on The Real Network’s YouTube platform.

He addressed how the demands of his career at times affect his presence as a parent. He said, “I feel like our jobs kinda in some instances do put us in positions where you can be a neglectful parent or can be present.” In that remark, he linked the intensity and unpredictability of a career in the entertainment industry to varying levels of parental presence.

The rapper turned Amapiano star expanded on that tension by describing cyclical seasons in his life. “I feel like I’ve got real seasons where I’m super present and you can’t really stop me because in those seasons I’m really available and I’ve got all the resources that I need to show up for,” he reported. In other words, he described periods when his professional and personal worlds align well enough for him to fully engage with his children.

However, he noted contrasting phases marked by absence. He said, “But then there’s some situations where not even anyone can see me, it’s not just my kids who can’t see me, I’m neglecting everyone because either we’re working on an album that we’re producing or working on a movie or working on TV, sometimes you’re depressed and you’re somewhere in a corner and you don’t wanna be seen which is a lot of things that happen.” Here Sizwe connected his withdrawal not just to workload but to emotional states and professional cycles.

He contrasted moments of full engagement with stretches of emotional or physical absence, suggesting that certain intense projects or internal struggles lead to distancing from family.

Reason underscored a recurring concern for public figures and artists who must juggle professional visibility and private life.
