South African hitmaker Ch’cco is celebrating the essence of Pitori culture through his latest collaborative project with Focalistic, titled B.O.A.T.S. (Based On A True Story). The album serves as both a sonic celebration and a cultural statement — a vibrant reflection of Pretoria’s unique sound, rhythm, and spirit.
One of the standout tracks, “Haena Wrongo,” perfectly captures the chemistry that defines the Pitori Super League (PSL) movement, a collective that includes Ch’cco, Focalistic, and Pabi Cooper, among others. The song embodies the authentic connection and creative energy that unite them, even as each artist enjoys massive success individually.
Speaking about their artistic bond, Ch’cco shared, “It’s the love we share for each other and the music we make, how we connect in the studio. It’s really that simple. It’s by far the easiest thing I’ve ever done, making music as PSL. You’re already set up for success. You already know what you’re going to get: the lovely Pabi Cooper on vocals, Focalistic with his raps. On a good day, if you get production from me and Sleazy, it’s a bonus. In this case, though, we had Young Sims Loreng, a special guy to look out for.”
Beyond the undeniable chemistry, B.O.A.T.S. highlights Ch’cco’s evolution as both a producer and curator, revealing his ability to balance artistry and collaboration. Reflecting on the process, he explained, “It taught me the art of balance, particularly when working with someone as accomplished as Focalistic. You’d think it’s simple and free-flowing, but there’s so much that goes into it. You also learn a great deal about the seriousness with which they approach their craft and their business.”
Ch’cco also emphasized how the project served as a learning experience, not just for him but for the audience too. “As far as a rollout is concerned, this is one of the best rollouts I’ve seen for any album in the history of South African music. So, it truly is something to be embraced,” he said.
With B.O.A.T.S., Ch’cco and Focalistic have solidified their place as pioneers of the Pitori sound, pushing boundaries while remaining true to their roots. Their collaboration is not just about music — it’s a celebration of identity, brotherhood, and the unstoppable rise of Pitori culture on the global stage.
