Tyler ICU Explains Why He Wouldn’t Be Bothered If Mnike Doesn’t Win A Metro FM Award

Through a candid Instagram post, Tyler explained why he remains unbothered by the prospect of his hit track “Mnike” not winning at the Metro FM Awards. His post read: “Even if Mnike doesn’t win anything on the metros Me and the kids “baby Blue” any other upcoming kids we doing cause we love the music. We are very thankful to all our fans worldwide and we love them so much and we will keep the same energy towards our music.” This sentiment was underscored by a video of the late Riky Rick, who, after winning at the Metro FM Awards, criticized the radio industry’s barriers and championed the power of the internet for emerging artists.

“Mnike” is not just a song; it’s a phenomenon. The track became a viral sensation on TikTok, making it one of the platform’s most popular songs in 2023 and earning the title of Song of the Year in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its popularity transcended viral trends, as it became the most streamed South African song in South Africa. The track’s international acclaim was further highlighted when global superstar Rihanna named it her Song of the Year. Additionally, “Mnike” achieved significant chart success, topping the Billboard SA chart and showcasing the global embrace of the Amapiano genre.

Tyler ICU’s stance on awards highlights a broader shift within the music industry. In his view, the value of music lies in its ability to connect with people and the joy it brings to both the artist and the audience, rather than the accolades it accumulates. This approach resonates with a new generation of artists and fans who view music as a universal language that transcends traditional barriers imposed by the mainstream music industry.

His alignment with Riky Rick’s sentiments in the shared video further emphasizes the changing landscape where success is increasingly measured by direct artist-fan interactions and viral internet fame, rather than traditional media play or industry recognition. This philosophy encourages emerging artists to focus on their craft and find alternative routes to exposure and success, leveraging digital platforms where their creativity can flourish without constraints.
