DJ Stokie is often credited as one of the first few deejays to play and popularise amapiano in Soweto back in the popular genre’s burgeoning days. Affectionately known as the “Kasi (township) Hero”, DJ Stokie is mostly known for his songs “Dlala Stokie”, “Amainternational”, “Ipiano e’Soweto” and “Superman”.
Stokie a.k.a Setoki Mbatha was recently interviewed on Kaya FM 95.9, and he talked about how he met Kabza De Small and how his music career progressed. “If Kabza called me at night and said he is stuck, I would wake up even if I’m sleeping. I’d wake up to go help him, but when it comes to me, they never do that for me,” he said.
