Maphorisa Brags About Being Multi-Talented. Maphorisa real name Themba Sekowe is a pioneer of the biggest genre in Mzansi at the moment. As a record producer with a blend of house music, amapiano and afropop, he has worked with and has received production credits from several notable artists, including Wizkid, Sizwe Alakine, Kwesta, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Runtown, C4 Pedro, TRESOR, Kabza De Small and Era Istrefi.
Maphorisa has bragged about his Multi-Talented saying he can DJ for 2 hours and perform for 15 minutes as Madumane. Maphorisa is a record producer, DJ and vocalist.
Maphorisa shared that the reason he invested so much in amapiano was the opportunity he saw in the sound and its growth. “With my gigs, I wanted to understand people’s reactions to this new sound because amapiano was underground. What really sparked my interest in the genre was that, at the time, I was looking to get into something that originated in South Africa. Amapiano is part of kwaito and dance music. When I started working with Afrobeats, which hails from Western Africa, I felt that we didn’t have a sound that strongly represented South Africa. When I started paying close attention to amapiano, I knew that this was a sound that would take South Africa to the world. There’s a lot that you can do with amapiano — you can make it soulful, funky, dusty and hard or jazz it up.”
