1 DJ Maphorisa’s real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe.

2 He was born on 15 November 1987 and he is 33 years old.

3 Phori started his career at a young age. He comes from a musical family. His mother was involved in the ministry and the DJ grew up listening to gospel music

4 He got his first big hit when he was a member of UhuruThe group featured on Mafikizolo’s 2013 smash hit, Khona.

5 He has worked with and has received production credits from several notable artists,including Wizkid, Burna Boy,  Kwesta, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Runtown, C4 Pedro, Kabza De Small and Era Istrefi, among others.

6 DJ Maphorisa is presently signed to his record label ‘BlaqBoy Music’ upon quitting Kalawa Jazmee Records.

7 DJ Maphorisa has owned several luxury cars, including a Mercedes Benz AMG C63 worth over R1 million. Despite his impressive car collection, the Ama Blesser hitmaker says owning a fancy ride isn’t everything. 

8 DJ Maphorisa owns a double-storey house in Midrand, Johannesburg. He has shared several pictures of his mansion on social media.

9 Beyoncé has also given DJ Maphorisa some recognition. Several days after her appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in Johannesburg in December 2018, the singer took to Instagram to share a video with highlights from her show. DJ Maphorisa’s iWalk ye Phara was the video’s backing track.

10 Maphorisa made headlines in 2016 thanks to his contribution on Canadian rapper Drake’s hit single, One Dance ft. Wizkid and Kayla. “We did something small, when I was in LA with Wizkid. He sent something to Wizkid, because I’m always with Wizkid I just added some few things…. I didn’t produce the song. I did [get credit] just a small thing. 40and Nineteen85 are the main producers” he told Gareth Cliff on Cliff Central.
