Amapiano continues to dominate the South African music scene, with established stars and rising voices constantly pushing the genre into exciting new territory. This month has delivered new music from some of the biggest names in the culture, including Mr JazziQ, Focalistic and Uncool MC, giving listeners plenty of fresh sounds to keep on repeat.
From infectious dancefloor records to songs built around romance and smooth storytelling, these five tracks are currently making an impact and adding even more heat to the Amapiano canon.
1. Mr JazziQ & Thesiix – “Katalia” feat. Shazz RSA, Don Deeya & Magwe ZA
Mr JazziQ continues his impressive run following the release of his acclaimed 0303 album earlier this year. On “Katalia”, he teams up with Thesiix, Shazz RSA, Don Deeya and Magwe ZA for a record that immediately catches the ear.
The track repurposes the melody associated with the ’90s hit “Macarena”, giving the familiar idea a distinctly Amapiano-driven identity. The title also recalls the late Killer Kau’s song of the same name, adding another layer of familiarity to the record. With its infectious groove and energetic production, “Katalia” has quickly become one of the songs commanding attention.
2. Focalistic, Benzoo, Optimist Music ZA, Mellow & Sleazy – “Gumba Fire” feat. Mr JazziQ
Focalistic remains one of the most versatile artists in the South African music scene. Whether working across Amapiano, Hip-Hop, Bacardi House or Lekompo, he continues to move comfortably between different sounds.
“Gumba Fire” brings together Focalistic, Benzoo, Optimist Music ZA, Mellow & Sleazy and Mr JazziQ for a high-energy collaboration. The combination of some of the scene’s prominent names makes this a record built for loud speakers and packed dancefloors.
3. Masterpiece YVK – “Skang Sokodisa”
Masterpiece YVK teams up with Focalistic, Mellow & Sleazy, Optimist Music ZA and Fake’Well on “Skang Sokodisa”, a track driven by a deep bassline and infectious rhythm.
Optimist Music ZA adds his trademark punchlines, while Focalistic brings his smooth delivery to the collaboration. Masterpiece YVK holds everything together with a confident performance, creating a song that feels tailor-made for the summer season.
4. Uncool MC – “Setla” feat. DJ Maphorisa, Ntsako XVI, Focalistic & Shaun 101
Uncool MC is stepping into another chapter of his career with “Setla”. Featuring DJ Maphorisa, Ntsako XVI, Focalistic and Shaun 101, the song serves as the first single from his upcoming Sesikude EP.
Focalistic adds his signature touch to the record, while the production and lineup give “Setla” the energy needed to stand out.
5. Mordecai, JayJayy & NTK101 – “Cabanga Nje”
Mordecai and JayJayy continue their musical partnership with “Cabanga Nje”, following collaborations such as “Mngani Wami” and “Phesheya”.
The song explores romance, longing and imagining a future with someone special. Its emotional theme gives it a softer quality while maintaining the musical identity that has made their collaborations resonate with listeners.
With these five tracks bringing different flavours to the genre, Amapiano continues to prove just how diverse and exciting its current sound remains.
