South African multiplatinum-selling artist and Amapiano heavyweight Mr JazziQ is joining forces with Thesiix, Don Deeya, Magwe and Shazz RSA for a brand-new single titled “Katalia.” Released through ONErpm, the upcoming record brings together Amapiano’s evolving sound with South Africa’s street culture and vibrant stance car movement.
“Katalia” is built around a playful yet deliberate concept centred on a woman who is known, loved and recognised in the streets. The name also takes on a second meaning within stance culture, where a standout modified car can be referred to as a “Katalia.”
For Mr JazziQ, the concept reflects his continued interest in exploring Amapiano beyond the dancefloor and connecting the genre with the culture, identity and lifestyles surrounding it.
“Katalia is about the streets and the energy around them. The idea started with this girl who is known and loved in the streets, and then we connected that idea to the stance car culture. When someone posts their car, they can say, ‘here’s my Katalia’, so the name becomes bigger than just the song,” says Mr JazziQ.
At the heart of the record is Bujwa, the Amapiano subgenre pioneered by Thesiix. The sound gives “Katalia” a distinct rhythmic identity while moving away from some of the genre’s more familiar formulas.
The song was inspired by Los Del Rio’s global hit “Macarena.” Don Deeya came across the song following Spain’s World Cup victory and began exploring how its melodic idea could be reinterpreted through a South African lens.
“Don heard the beat and remembered the melody he had previously recorded after hearing the original after the World Cup game. Tried it on the mic and once done with the hook, Magwe jumped on the song,” says Mr JazziQ.
The collaboration also marks several firsts for the artists involved. “Katalia” will be Don Deeya’s first released record featuring a female artist, while Shazz RSA makes her debut in released Bujwa music. It also marks Thesiix’s first Bujwa release featuring a female vocalist and Mr JazziQ’s first Bujwa release.
The record further connects to Mr JazziQ’s Stance Social platform, with the next edition scheduled for Johannesburg on 7 November 2026.
With its blend of Bujwa, Amapiano, interpolation and street culture, “Katalia” positions the collaborators at the intersection of music and lifestyle, turning a simple name into a wider cultural reference.
