South African electronic music powerhouse Shimza has returned with a deeply personal and emotionally rich new project titled Sunset in Pretoria, a three-track EP released on 19 June 2026 through his acclaimed label, Kunye Records. Arriving shortly after the launch of his highly anticipated residency at Pacha Ibiza, the EP serves as both a tribute to South Africa and a celebration of the global rise of Afro House music.
Known for blending African rhythms with world-class electronic production, Shimza uses Sunset in Pretoria to tell a story rooted in home while speaking to audiences around the world. The project features a carefully selected group of local and international collaborators, resulting in a body of work that feels both intimate and universal.
The EP opens with its title track, “Sunset in Pretoria,” a collaboration with French and Dubai-based producer Demayä. The song unfolds with cinematic elegance, layering warm melodies, hypnotic percussion, and atmospheric textures that capture the beauty of a Pretoria sunset. It gradually builds into an expansive groove that showcases Shimza’s ability to create music that is both reflective and dancefloor-ready.
The second offering, “uMa Wami,” brings together Shimza, Thatohatsi, and Jnr SA. Driven by soulful vocals and rolling Afro House rhythms, the track celebrates collaboration and the richness of South African musical talent. Thatohatsi’s contribution is particularly noteworthy, arriving at a time when she continues to enjoy remarkable streaming success and growing recognition across the country.
Closing the EP is “Entle,” featuring Jabulani Majola. The emotionally charged track combines expressive vocals with rich instrumentation and a slow-burning arrangement.
