South African amapiano stars Scotts Maphuma and CowBoii have officially broken their silence regarding the controversial Uganda show incident that recently sparked widespread debate on social media.
The artists, through their label, released a detailed public statement explaining what allegedly took place during their scheduled performance in Uganda on 15 May. The statement comes after online reports claimed there had been disputes surrounding payments, travel arrangements, and the alleged arrest of a label representative connected to the booking.
Scotts Maphuma took to his Instagram page to share the official statement, which aimed to clarify the situation and provide fans with the label’s side of the story.
According to the statement, the issues reportedly began when the event promoter allegedly failed to honor the payment terms agreed upon in the signed contract. The label explained that the contract clearly stated that the initial 50% deposit paid by the promoter was non-refundable, as accepting the booking meant turning down other opportunities for that specific date.
The statement further claimed that the remaining balance was supposed to be paid 14 days before the event, as outlined in the agreement. However, according to the artists’ team, the promoter allegedly failed to make the payment within the required timeframe.
“Section 5.3 strictly prohibits payment being made upon arrival, and this was known to the Promoter,” the statement explained.
Another major issue highlighted in the statement involved the alleged wrongful detention of the label representative. The artists’ team claimed the matter was civil in nature and should not have involved law enforcement authorities.
According to the statement, the representative allegedly provided proof of payment when questioned, but was still detained because the funds had not yet reflected in the recipient’s account. The label further alleged that the promoter collaborated with local police and pressured the representative into making a second payment equal to the original amount.
The statement also addressed concerns about travel arrangements, claiming the promoter failed to comply with contractual requirements regarding flight bookings. According to the agreement, any flight longer than two hours required either premium economy or business class tickets, which the artists say was ignored despite prior discussions.
Scotts Maphuma and CowBoii’s team also accused the promoters of escalating the dispute publicly instead of following proper contractual dispute resolution procedures. They alleged that secretly taken photos of the label representative were shared online in an attempt to ridicule and intimidate him.
Despite the controversy, the artists took time to apologize to their Ugandan supporters for the disappointing outcome.
“We would like to apologise to our fans in Uganda, those who came out to support and show love and we will forever be grateful to them,” the statement read.
The artists also confirmed that they are now exploring legal action in an effort to resolve the matter and seek justice regarding the incident.
