Nandi Madida Shares Her Hopes For Amapiano Genre As It Grows Worldwide. Nandi Madida née Mngoma is a South African singer, actress, model and television presenter. Born and raised in Maphumulo, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, She rose to stardom after she was featured by DJ Franky as a vocalist on single “Tonight”, which was released.

Award-winning musician and TV presenter Nandi Madida has shared her hopes for the amapiano genre as it grows worldwide. Taking to social media, Madida said she hoped that its contributors would be empowered and not appropriated as the music genre gained international popularity.

“My hope is that this beautiful genre called amapiano grows around the world as it is, but that the world knows and appreciates the fact that it is a South African sound and that South African artists, DJs, producers, etc. are empowered on a global scale and not appropriated.”

The music genre, which originated between the townships of Pretoria and Johannesburg around 2012, has gained international audiences across the globe through artists such as Major League DJs, Scorpion Kings, DBN Gogo and more. Per Beat Portal, the genre began as a byproduct of manipulating house tracks by slowing them down.
