Pabi Cooper Responds To Sexism Comments After Bagging Sports Presenter Gig. Just over a year ago, singer and dancer Pabi Cooper was the typical girl next door whose dreams were to become SA’s youngest soccer referee. The rising star’s passion for football was first sparked by her grandmother who taught her the ins and outs of soccer through their little television at home as a child. While soccer was what she and her grandmother used to bond over, little did Cooper know that later in her life she’d want to pursue it professionally by becoming a referee.
South African Amapiano sensation, Pabi Cooper has bagged a new gig. The young musician will now be able to add “Sports Presenter” to her resume. Pabi Cooper will be presenting for the Good Morning Qatar show on SABC 1. Pabi made this announcement on Tuesday morning and teased a few pictures of herself on set.
Despite being knowledgeable of the sport and being a soccer referee by profession, many have taken to social media to question the validity and credibility of the Amapiano star’s appointment. Some have even gone to the extent of displaying blatant sexism.
One Twitter user completely denied Pabi’s appointment and insinuated that other women could be more knowledgeable about soccer than Pabi. “Don’t footy ladies get such opportunities, there’s probably ladies around FT who are more knowledgeable than Pabi”, he said. To which Pabi replied: “…been playing football for 4 years & I’m a referee by profession”.
Cooper has been hard at work since her big break. She owns her own label Cooper Entertainment and recently released her hit song Banyana Ke Bafana which features fellow amapiano mainstays Focalistic, Ch’cco, Luudadeejay and Nobantu Vilakazi. The single has been her biggest one to date with over half a million streams on Spotify and more than 400 views on YouTube. She won the best newcomer at the Amapiano awards in December last year.
