A face of South Africa’s amapiano movement, producer/DJ Busta 929 has gotten parties started at a national level ever since he first popped out of nowhere with Mr JazziQ for their joint album, Maba Jabul’abantu, in 2020. Filled with ambient synths and energetic percussion, the project established the two as a potent duo while revealing Busta as a dynamic producer to watch.
Mfana Thupa popularly known as Busta 929 has bought his mom a brand new set of VW wheels. The star took to social media to share that he has bought his princess, referring to his mom a new car. “Just bought a new baby for my princess, I love you mom,” he wrote. Check it out:
In 2021, Busta unleashed “Umsebenzi Wethu”, a song that became his biggest to date, before going forward to release his own solo effort. Titled Undisputed, the album is filled with memorable collaborations from artists across the region (Zuma, Focalistic and Mgiftoz SA) and mellow beats carved from the distinct, lush instrumentation of the house spinoff genre. The project proved to be another step in a coming-out party for the DJ, whose status as an amapiano all-star is undisputed.
Busta 929 recently rose to the top of the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) as it launched The Official South African Charts (Tosac). His single “Ngixolele” featuring Boohle occupies the top spot on both the local and international charts. “Ngixolele” amassed in excess of 778 200 streams across Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer. Busta 929’s success continues on amapiano stars’ early dominance of the charts after Young Stunnaʼs “Adiwele” featuring Kabza De Small topped the charts a few weeks ago.
