Tycoon Gives Darque’s ‘uMoya’ an Amapiano Makeover With ‘uMoya 2.0’

Tycoon has officially landed with his own interpretation of “uMoya,” the beloved House record originally performed by Darque alongside Zawadi Yamungu and Atmos Blaq. Taken from Darque’s studio album Open Your Eyes, the song has become a go-to selection for many DJs, and now Tycoon has breathed new life into it with an Amapiano-driven rendition titled “uMoya 2.0.”

Remix culture has always played an important role in South African music, particularly within Amapiano. The genre has benefited tremendously from artists reimagining established records and introducing them to new audiences. By transforming familiar sounds while retaining elements of the originals, producers have helped Amapiano continuously evolve and reach different spaces.

Tycoon follows in that tradition with “uMoya 2.0,” offering a fresh perspective on Darque’s hit. Rather than completely abandoning the identity of the original, the producer carefully preserves the distinctive contributions of Zawadi Yamungu and Atmos Blaq while updating the production with a contemporary Amapiano sound.

For the remix, Tycoon joins forces with Soulful Disciple, bringing together their production strengths to create a version that feels familiar while taking the record somewhere new. The result is a reimagined “uMoya” that introduces Amapiano textures and rhythmic elements to the melodious House foundation that made the original so appealing.

“uMoya 2.0” demonstrates how a successful remix can give an existing record another life without stripping away what made it special in the first place. The familiar vocals and musical identity remain recognisable, but the production allows the song to resonate differently with listeners who are deeply connected to the current Amapiano movement.

The remix also has the potential to work across a variety of settings. Its combination of soulful melodies and Piano-driven energy makes it suitable for DJ sets, festivals, clubs and gatherings where listeners are looking for a record that balances atmosphere with movement.

There is also an intriguing possibility that “uMoya 2.0” could eventually rival its source material. While the original has already established itself as a respected House record, history has shown that remixes can sometimes become just as popular as—or even overshadow—the songs that inspired them.

With “uMoya 2.0,” Tycoon has placed his own stamp on a familiar favourite while continuing the long-standing South African tradition of musical reinvention. The remix gives “uMoya” a fresh Amapiano identity and opens the door for a new generation of listeners to experience the record from a different perspective.
