DJ Maphorisa has opened up about the business side of his partnership with Kabza De Small, revealing that the Scorpion Kings could potentially ask Sony Music for a R100 million deal when it is time to negotiate their next agreement.
The Amapiano heavyweight made the revelation during his appearance on Podcast and Chill with MacG on 17 September 2026, where he discussed his career, his partnership with Kabza De Small and the business moves behind their musical success. The episode was part of the podcast’s Episode 799.
According to Maphorisa, the pair previously secured a multimillion-rand deal with Sony Music, with reports putting the advance at between R42 million and R44 million. The deal was structured to support their respective music businesses, with funds going towards Kabza’s PianoHub and Maphorisa’s New Money Gang/BlaqBoy Music.
Speaking about the possibility of their next deal, Maphorisa confidently imagined approaching Sony Music with a much bigger request.
“Mr. Sean, hey, we want 100 million for your next deal,” he said.
The statement reflects how significantly the duo’s business ambitions have grown since their first major agreement. Maphorisa explained that the initial advance was paid back, giving the pair a stronger position as they look towards their future business dealings.
The Sony Music agreement has been described as an important financial turning point for both artists. Reports indicate that the original advance was divided between Maphorisa and Kabza, allowing them to continue developing their respective operations while simultaneously expanding their musical partnership.
Beyond their business relationship, Maphorisa and Kabza have continued to strengthen the Scorpion Kings brand through music, live performances and major events. Their partnership recently reached another significant milestone with Scorpion Kings Live at FNB Stadium on 19 September, following their previous stadium show at Loftus Versfeld in 2025.
Their growing commercial footprint has also been accompanied by continued activity in the studio, with both artists remaining central figures in the development and expansion of Amapiano.
While there is no confirmed R100 million Sony Music deal at this stage, Maphorisa’s comments have offered listeners a glimpse into the scale of the ambitions he and Kabza could bring to their next negotiations.
For now, the R100 million figure remains a possibility raised by Maphorisa himself, but his comments underline just how far the Scorpion Kings’ musical and business journey has come.
