In a recent interview on Metro FM, Maeywon, widely known as Murumba Pitch SA addressed questions about his career after parting ways with his former music partner. While fans have been curious about the direction of his solo journey, he took the opportunity to clarify the meaning of the name “Murumba Pitch,” reflect on the freedom of working alone, speak on the ongoing drama in the amapiano space, and share his thoughts on whether a reunion could ever happen.
Many supporters speculated that the separation meant the brand had split into two acts, one being “Murumba” and the other “Pitch.” Murumba Pitch SA dismissed the assumption, making it clear that the name remains whole. “No, it’s just a name, Murumba Pitch as a whole. I feel like I’m in my own zone now ’cause I just dropped an album. For me, that’s what is important,” he explained. His statement confirmed that the identity of Murumba Pitch is not divided, but something he continues to carry forward as a solo artist.
He went on to reflect on how his solo journey has allowed him to explore more sounds and genres than before. “I’m free to explore more sounds because there were certain things binding me, not to do certain genres. But now that I work alone, I’m free,” he said. Interestingly, before breaking into amapiano, Murumba Pitch SA revealed he was actually an R&B guy, which explains his soulful touch. Now, freed from restrictions, he’s been able to merge those roots with amapiano’s log drums and rhythms, creating music that feels both innovative and personal.
The interview also touched on the ongoing drama in the amapiano scene, with many wondering how it affects him. He was clear about his stance, “Bro, for me, you know, it’s so weird how the circle of amapiano is doing weird things, you know. And I’m not trying to keep up with all of that. So yeah, I’m keeping my head straight because I know where I’m going. I’m not going to be always doing I’m Amapiano. I’m not trying to work with the Big guys out there and then they try to look back and say, hey, there was something going on here, this and that, this and that. So yeah, no, man.”
When asked about the possibility of reuniting with his former partner, Murumba Pitch SA was candid yet focused on his current path. “You know, even if there was a possibility, for me personally I feel like I grow more when doing this thing on my own. I’ve proven it in my recent projects, the album that I just dropped now,” he said.
For Murumba Pitch SA, this chapter is about clarity, freedom, and staying grounded, an artist carving his own lane while keeping his eyes firmly on the bigger picture.
