Lucasraps Opens Up About Lying To Maphorisa So He Could Move To Joburg. Lucasraps who started rapping at the age of eight, always knew what career he wanted to pursue from a younger age. At 16, that’s when he learnt how to put rhymes together and started to write his own lyrics. Today, the star has worked with the likes of DJ Maphorisa, Riky Rick, and Blxckie; and like most artists, there is more to him than what meets the eye.
Lucasraps met Maphorisa in Durban a few weeks after breaking the news about him dropping after school, and they started recording the now popular song Ammo. Maphorisa even flew him to Johannesburg to complete recording the song. However, the young rising star had lied to DJ Maphorisa that his parents had given him permission to move to Joburg. Maphorisa then booked him a one-way plane ticket to Joburg.
Though after he broke the news to his mom, she wasn’t quite happy about his decision considering that he was dropping out of school. However, after being part of successful songs such as Haibo, Pardon My French, Big Time Sh’lappa and What It Is, his parents have slowly warmed to his music career.
It all started when the star dropped out of grade 10 in the most dramatic way in 2017 to pursue his music career. “It was a normal school day. I woke up early and chilled with my friends. But then I had a big argument with one of my teachers in class. It was a computer class and you can’t drink or eat in there. Those were the rules. I was hungry and didn’t eat in the first break. I was just being weird that day. We did maths literacy first and then computer studies; it was the same teacher. She caught me eating and kicked me out. She was too upset about it, more than her usual reaction. I made a scene,” Lucasraps recounts.
The star explained that he later went to the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror, that’s when he realised that this was not supposed to be his journey. He took off his blazer and threw it in the bin and told his friends he was done with school. They laughed at him. From there he asked the pupils to sign his T-shirt. Many declined. Later that day the deputy principal had a chat with him, asking if there was trouble at home. Lucasraps explained to him that he didn’t feel academically inclined, especially with the teaching methods used at the school. He further told the deputy principal about his rap dream before free-styling for him. The deputy principal then signed his T-shirt.
