Focalistic Reveals Why He Idolises Bra Hugh Masekela And Khuli Chana. Pitori Maradona who has been hitting the industry for a while now has surely made Mzansi proud especially introducing amapiano to other countries outside South Africa. Focalistic was arguably one of 2019’s biggest breakout stars and he continues to dominate the music industry till date. While he may be considered one of Mzansi’s coolest artists at the moment and he’s a certified hitmaker, he finds his inspiration from some of Mzansi’s veteran artists.

Focalistic revealed that he idolises rapper Khuli Chana and the late Bra Hugh Masekela. “For me the craziest thing that I look up to them for is that they were themselves. They never tried to minimise their personalities. You can hear their personality come through from everything that they make. So for me, I think the greatest art is when you’re yourself and just doing you. So people from Rankuwa where I’m from they can see that it is still me,” Foca said.

Focalistic’s raps are in Sepitori—a vernacular spoken in Pretoria townships made up of a variety of South African languages, mostly Sesotho, Setswana and tsotsitaal (slang). His flows contorts accordingly and matches perfect with a blend of beats. “I always say your greatest power is you being yourself. So just be yourself and continue speaking S’pitori if that what you speak, if you’re from Qwaqwa(a village in the Eastern Cape province). Your greatest power is being yourself and being proud of where you come from,” Focalistic said.

He also mentioned that he doesn’t fixate on genre and wants people to know that his music “is for South Africans, by South Africans that sound South African.” He has made history in the Hip Hop scene and continues to make history in the current biggest sound, amapiano. With that being said, Foca jumps on every beat to showcase his versatility.
