Uncle Waffles has become one of the brightest stars in amapiano, captivating audiences across the globe with her magnetic energy and unforgettable sets. But beyond the DJ booths and international stages, she also has her favourite spots around Johannesburg that keep her grounded and connected to the city she calls home.
In a recent interview with Isaac Hindin-Miller, Uncle Waffles gave fans an intimate look into her go-to hangouts, dream neighbourhood, and the venues that mean the most to her as both an artist and a person.
When asked about her dream neighbourhood, the star didn’t hesitate: Constantia Kloof. “I want to build in Constantia—hopefully one day I’m going to have a home in Constantia. It just gives safe. It gives home,” she explained, highlighting the suburb’s balance of security and serenity.
Food is another passion that Uncle Waffles doesn’t hold back on. She raved about The 11th Floor, describing it as a place that delivers elevated twists on South African classics. “Like a good beef curry and samp, you always get something elevated there,” she shared. For drinks and social vibes, she opts for Ukko, well-known for its creative cocktails. “Everybody goes for the drink. The drinks are blue, they got glitter—all the girls go there to cheers with their friends.” She also pointed out Club Como as a solid spot for meals when she’s out in the city.
As a performer, Uncle Waffles has graced massive stages from Coachella to Afro Nation, but her heart is still in Johannesburg. She singled out Cosmopolitan in Maboneng as her favourite local venue. “It’s a venue that a lot of young kids can afford, so I love playing there. You get good interactions with the kids,” she explained. And when she’s off-duty? You’ll probably find her at Louis, dancing the night away in a tucked-away corner, free from cameras. “Nobody can take a video of me,” she laughed.
Of course, her passion for fashion also shines through. Uncle Waffles named Thebe Magugu as her favourite clothing store, celebrating the homegrown designer’s global impact. Musically, she continues to show love to fellow amapiano heavyweights including Royal MusiQ, Kamo Mphela, DBN Gogo, and TxC, proving that community remains at the heart of her journey.
Through these personal favourites, Uncle Waffles paints a picture of Johannesburg that is both vibrant and authentic—a city that continues to shape her artistry while giving her spaces to simply be herself.
