DJ Stokie reunites with the musicians he collaborated with on his chart topping track, Awukhuzeni, to replicate the magic and synergy they once achieved. Zee_nhle and Sobzeen make a return with Stokie’s new single Selimathunzi. This track embodies the essence of amapiano, a genre known for its fusion of diverse musical styles. Selimathunzi incorporates elements of afro-jazz and house, showcasing the genre’s versatility and rich musical influences. Faith strings makes a feature by doing a fire guitar solo, and throwing in guitar chords on the rest of the song, that elevate the sound of the track.
Selimathunzi is a play on words, as for many South Africans it is reminiscent of the lifestyle television series which gained popularity in the 90’s. The narrative of the song is about a complicated love story, however the repetition of Selimathunzi will stick with many people because of nostalgia.
