Tresor on filming the video for “Folasade”
The video shoot was amazing. So I co-directed the video and did the creative vision for the video. I want to get across a really this bold and apologetic energy. Overall, we had such a great team. It was very co-operative. Everything was shot literally in one day and we edited everything within two weeks. So it was a really great process.
Tresor on the different languages on the upcoming album ‘Rumble In The Jungle’
With this particular album, we really went personally as a writer, I went back to the source. I got to really dig deep in sound from all over the continent, and got sing in Swahili, I got to sing in Lingala, and got to really bring in a bit of Zulu South African language and a bit of French because I speak French.
Tresor on making music without borders
The fusion of the whole album was so perfect because we really got to blend our cultures and getting to really make music without having seen both. Especially for me, the album is really a great picture of sonic identity and unity on one project. And I’m really, really excited to be able to share that because we really got to make music without having any boundaries and borders whatsoever.
Tresor on working with DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small
I think the craziest story I’m telling is, you know I’ve known [DJ] Maphorisa for a very long time. We met two, three years ago. We travelled two hours out of town. He started playing me some crazy, crazy sound. And that’s how I started to really vibe from amapiano. Last year, just at the beginning of lockdown, he got in touch because we did a campaign together and just said, “Man, I love what you’re doing. I think let’s do an album.” From within two, three weeks, we had most of the songs done.
