Maphorisa Reacts To Universal Studio Music Removing ‘Scorpion King Mix’ On YouTube. Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe is a South African record producer, vocalist, and disk jockey. However, Themba operates on an international level, while still employing afro-pop and house music styles. Themba Sekowe is widely referred to as DJ Maphorisa. This disk jockey is recognized for his collaborations with international artists. He has collaborated with the likes of Kwesta, Uhuru, Wizkid, and even the American superstar, Drake. It was his collaborations with artists like these that rose him to stardom.

The man, who is known for being the pioneer of South Africa’s No 1 music genre, amapiano, took to social media to share that Universal Music has removed his and Kabza’s mix in their collaboration ‘Scorpion Kings’ on YouTube. He shared that the reason behind this was because they want to drop a project by Sam Deep, who is signed under the record label. Reacting to this, he wrote: So Universal Music removed our Scorpion King Mix on youtube cause they wanna drop Thokoza by Sam Deep first the funny thing is we making the song BIG ayiiiii ke di Bari shame they really dnt know how to make money. Majors labels sometimes fuck up the Amapiano movement.”

Maphorisa revealed that Mjakes from Kalawa Jazmee gave him his big break and told him that he had talent that needed to be nurtured. He shares that his love for Amapiano was influenced by his travels. “I’ve travelled to different countries and got to experience different beats and dances. That has helped with my music.”

But DJ Maphorisa, who is at the height of his career, is not without controversy. He believes that some of his industry peers are jealous of him. “I think they are jealous of me because they stick to one thing and I’m all about diversity. It makes them mad that I’m a versatile artist,” he said.

DJ Maphorisa says even though he’s making a lot of money, there’s always room for more. “Yes, I’m making a lot of money, but I believe that I can make more with the current moves that I’m making. There’s a lot of money to be made in this genre, but some artists are stuck in their own ways and they don’t want to explore,” he shared.
