Major League Djz On How They Plan To Power The Global Amapiano Movement . Amapiano as it stands today has expanded to include a number of factions — from Bacardi-tinged to tech to the softer, more spiritual anthems, right through to what some call ‘private school’ ‘piano that borders on tropical house and gets the nickname from its perceived more classy demeanour.

Major League DJz, made up of twin brothers Banele and Bandile Mbere, have taken the world by storm with their amapiano Balcony Mixes. They are breaking bountries while ensuring the South African sound is known globally. Since they jumped into amapiano, the twin brothers have become one of the renowned stars in the genre.

“The spirit of amapiano right now to me is African dance music that brings the world together,” Bandile shared. Banele agrees before adding: “It breeds African soul. I think that’s why it’s even brought Africa closer together, or brought South Africa closer to [the rest of] Africa.” To Banele though, it’s pretty simple. Those wanting to jump on the wave are more than welcome to if they do it the right way: “They must go to where the sound is being purified, learn and inherit from that, bring people in who started with it so it helps to actually grow the sound.”

Through the national lockdown, the brothers kept us dancing and once it was safe again, the Balcony Mixes became explosive events. The likes of Kabza De Small, DBN Gogo, Mr JazziQ, De Mthuda, Kelvin Momo and DJ Maphorisa all had guest DJ mixes on the Balcony Mix. The Balcony Mix has also travelled to several countries including Ghana, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Mexico and the United States.

In September, the star are hoping to set the world record for the longest duo DJ set in history. The world record attempt will take place between 2 and 4 September in Johannesburg.
