DJ, producer and artist Lebogang Matabane, better known as Ricky Lenyora, is stepping into a new chapter of his career with the release of his latest single, Sosha Nendlu. More than just another Amapiano release, the record tells the story of his personal journey through the music industry and pays tribute to the genre that has shaped his life.
Before establishing himself as an artist, Ricky built his reputation behind the scenes. He began his career as an MC before later becoming a road manager for Amapiano pioneer DJ Maphorisa, a role that allowed him to witness the industry’s inner workings while learning from one of its biggest names.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Ricky explained that the single was inspired by the experiences and lessons he gained throughout his career.
“During my journey I learnt a lot and was inspired by DJ Maphorisa, so I thought maybe it’s time to share the music and my journey with others,” he said.
He added that surrounding himself with experienced musicians played an important role in bringing the project to life.
“I believe in learning from people who have been in the industry for a long time. That was my approach with this project. I wanted to work with people who understand the type of music I like and the direction I wanted for the project.”
The single sees Ricky joining forces with Candy Flow RSA, DJ Maphorisa, Benzoo and Bron, creating a collaboration that blends experience, creativity and authentic Amapiano energy. Each artist contributes to a record that celebrates both the culture and the future of the genre.
Representing New Money Gang and Dream Big Entertainment, Ricky has steadily established himself as a contributor to South Africa’s Amapiano movement through storytelling, innovative music and meaningful collaborations. His latest release continues that mission while reflecting his passion for preserving the genre.
For Ricky, Sosha Nendlu carries a message that extends far beyond music. He explained that the title represents an unwavering commitment to Amapiano and its legacy.
“Sosha Nendlu means we will die for the Amapiano genre and will do whatever it takes to save it for the next generations. We will continue with the struggle that has inspired the youth and the world as a whole. I have a lot of work to do.”
Looking ahead, Ricky believes the song arrives at the perfect time as the country prepares for another vibrant summer season.
“As South Africa gets ready for summer, a lot of people will relate to this song. Stay tuned.”
With Sosha Nendlu, Ricky Lenyora isn’t simply releasing a new single—he is sharing his story while reaffirming his dedication to protecting and growing the genre he loves. As his musical journey continues, his message is clear: Amapiano’s future is worth fighting for, and he intends to be part of that journey every step of the way.
