Scorpion Kings, made up of dynamic Amapiano duo DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small has been dominating the music space for the past couple of years with no signs of slowing down. The duo is currently preparing for their headline show, Scorpion Kings LIVE [with friends] happening on the 29th of August at Loftus Stadium.
In an interview with Metro FM talking about the event, DJ Maphorisa (also known as Porry) shared how he and Kabza De Small came to be Scorpion Kings and how their partnership and unique sound helped solidify their place in the music industry.
“Kabza had a plan to drop an album. We had a few songs that were hot at the time, and I compiled a quick list and told them, ‘Let’s drop this and call it Scorpion Kings,” Maphorisa said explaining how their iconic name came about.
A while ago in a Street Fame Culture podcast interview where both artists were guests, DJ Maphorisa opened up about how he met Kabza saying, “He blew my mind with the songs he was playing, and I started following him.” He added that he was amazed Kabza De Small played, “I thought to myself, ‘Yho, this guy has got his world that he created.’ I couldn’t just let him be. I asked him, no bro, let’s work together,” Maphorisa said.
“I learnt a lot of things from him, how the amapiano genre works as he did it in his way. I started attending gigs and watching him and the people he played for. Kabza taught me a lot,” he concluded.
